Bigelow (spr. bíggeloh), John, amerik. Diplomat und Publizist, geb. 25. Nov. 1817 zu Malden (Neuyork), 1861 nordamerik. Konsul in Paris, 1864-66 Gesandter das., 1867-68 und 1877-78 Staatssekretär von Neuyork. Gab Franklins Werke (1887 fg.) heraus; schrieb: »Life of Fremont« (1856), »Life of Tilden« (2 Bde., 1895) u.a. – Sein Sohn Poultney B., geb. 10. Sept. 1855 in Neuyork, machte große Reisen, 1904 Prof. der Rechte in Boston; schrieb: »The German emperor and his eastern neighbours« (1891), »History of the German struggle for liberty« (Bd. 1-3, 1895-1903) u.a.
